PS5 Stick Drift Repair Fareham

Is your PS5 controller drifting?

COMMON SYMPTOMS

Character moves on its own

PS5 controller icon representing camera drift and aiming issues

Aiming or camera keeps drifting

PS5 stick drift dead zone icon with crossed analogue input symbol

Inconsistent input or dead zones

Temporary fixes no longer work

PS5 DualSense controllers use analogue thumbstick modules that measure movement using small internal potentiometers. Inside those modules, a metal contact moves across a carbon resistance track every time the stick is moved.
Over time, that physical contact wears the carbon track down. Once the resistance readings become inconsistent, the controller can start reporting movement even when you are not touching the thumbstick. That is what most people experience as traditional stick drift.
This is why recalibration alone will not usually fix a worn stick permanently. Calibration may temporarily hide the symptoms, but it cannot repair physical wear inside the thumbstick module.
Other causes can include dust, debris, impact damage, liquid damage, worn centring springs or a physically broken thumbstick.

WHAT CAUSES STICK DRIFT?

The Problem With Standard Thumbsticks

Standard PS5 potentiometer thumbsticks rely on physical contact, causing the carbon tracks to wear down over time, leading to inconsistent readings, reduced accuracy, and eventual stick drift.

THE SOLUTION

Upgrade to Hall Effect or TMR Technology

Hall Effect and TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) PS5 sensors use magnetic technology with no physical contact, eliminating wear and providing more accurate input, smoother performance, longer lifespan, and zero stick drift.

FAQ

What causes PS5 controller stick drift?

PS5 controller stick drift is commonly caused by wear inside the analogue thumbstick module. Standard potentiometer thumbsticks use physical contact and carbon tracks that gradually wear down over time, leading to inconsistent readings, dead zones, and unwanted movement.

Should You Replace Your Controller or Upgrade It?

Buying a New Controller

  • Temporary fix if the new controller uses standard analogue modules
  • The wear cycle starts again
  • Stick drift may return depending on usage
  • Often higher long-term cost if controllers keep being replaced

VS

Repairing & Upgrading

  • Fixes the existing drift issue
  • Allows Hall Effect or TMR upgrade options
  • Reduces future wear-related drift risk
  • Keeps your existing controller in use

Replacing the controller can reset the clock, but upgrading the thumbstick modules can be the smarter long-term option.

Can PS5 stick drift be permanently fixed?

In many cases, yes. Standard thumbstick replacements restore normal function, while Hall Effect and TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) upgrades use magnetic sensing technology with no physical contact, significantly reducing wear and future drift issues, these sticks can be recalibrated.

Is cleaning a PS5 controller a permanent fix for stick drift?

Usually not. Cleaning may temporarily improve symptoms if dirt or debris is affecting the thumbstick, but if the internal carbon tracks are worn, the issue will return. Permanent repair normally requires replacing or upgrading the thumbstick module.

What is the difference between Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks?

Both use magnetic sensing technology instead of physical contact. Hall Effect modules are highly durable and drift resistant, while TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) modules offer even greater precision, smoother input, and improved responsiveness for competitive gaming.

How long does a PS5 stick drift repair take?

Most PS5 stick drift repairs and thumbstick upgrades are completed within 1–3 working days depending on workload, parts availability, and the type of upgrade being installed.

Do you offer mail-in PS5 controller repairs?

Yes. We offer secure UK-wide mail-in PS5 controller repairs as well as local Fareham drop-off appointments. Customers can safely post their controller to us using tracked delivery services.

Will my controller be calibrated after repair?

Yes. All repaired and upgraded controllers are professionally calibrated and tested to ensure accurate analogue stick movement, correct dead zones, and smooth performance before being returned.

Is it better to repair or replace a drifting PS5 controller?

In most cases, repairing or upgrading the controller is far more cost-effective than buying a new one. Purchasing another standard controller simply restarts the same wear cycle that causes stick drift over time.

Do Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks eliminate stick drift?

Hall Effect and TMR thumbsticks are designed to dramatically reduce or eliminate traditional stick drift caused by physical wear because they use magnetic sensing instead of carbon track contact systems.

Can you repair SCUF and custom PS5 controllers?

Yes. We repair and upgrade many custom PS5 controllers including SCUF controllers, modified controllers, and custom DualSense builds. Please contact us before booking if your controller has specialist modifications or custom components.
